About Us

About Kaeā

At Kaeā, we want to pay our deepest respects to the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live and create—the Gubbi Gubbi/Kabi Kabi people of the Redcliffe Peninsula, Brisbane. We acknowledge their enduring connection to the land, waters, and skies, and pay tribute to their tupuna (ancestors), their wisdom, and the strength of their ongoing cultural practices. We are committed to walking gently on this land, with gratitude and respect, and stand in solidarity with all Indigenous peoples in their efforts to protect, preserve, and revitalise their culture and language.

Kaeā, in Te Reo Māori, means to wander, to lead or teach. To wander bravely, to lead respectfully, and to teach responsibly.

Kaeā is a creative boutique that aims to share learnings of Te Ao Māori while creating products that celebrate our connections to the whenua (lands), our culture, and our tupuna. We create and sell products that we believe to showcase the beauty of Aotearoa, with all taonga being sourced from home (Aotearoa) or created from products sourced from there.

Raised in Whangārei, Aotearoa (New Zealand), and Whakapapa back to Tinopai, I have now been living in Ahitereiria (Australia) for 10 years. I’m a full-time working māmā (to one beautiful tama) and while on maternity leave with him, had this wild idea to start a small pakihi (business). While studying to complete my Bachelor of Business, I discovered that two of my greatest passions are my culture and running a business.

By bringing these two worlds together, I’ve created a platform that supports my journey through Te Ao Māori and helps me reclaim the knowledge and identity that was lost among my tūpuna. This space is a reflection of that ongoing journey—rooted in whakapapa, driven by purpose, and guided by aroha.

Our Kaupapa

Kaeā Boutique was born from a desire to explore my auahatanga (creativity) and deepen my connection to Te Ao Māori.

Every taonga we create is made with care, respect, and deep gratitude for the resources gifted to us by Papatūānuku. Our kaupapa is grounded in cultural integrity, sustainability, and love—for our whenua, our whānau, and our future generations.
